Chelsea Polly, civil rights and Title IX coordinator, shared Wooster’s campus climate information from November 2024 to January 2025. These climate notifications are usually sent out the month after they occur. The following reports were noted within the campus climate notification:
- Alcohol incidents: four reports
- Beall Avenue incidents: one report
- Bias reports: 10 reports
- Drug incidents: seven reports
- Sexual assault reports: four reports
- Sexual harassment reports: four reports
- Dating and domestic violence reports: three reports
Matt Mariola, co-director of Great Decisions of Wayne County and associate professor and chair of the environmental studies program, shared this year’s 42nd Great Decisions of Wayne County lecture series. The series began on Feb. 6 with a talk from Daniel Scholten, a visiting scholar at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Scholten’s talk, titled “The Geopolitics of the Energy Transition,” was in Gault Recital Hall in Scheide Music Center at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Three more events still remain in the lecture series:
- Thursday, Feb. 20: Screening of “Powerlands” and question and answer series with the film’s director, Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso.
- Tuesday, March 4: “Why Should Christians Care about an Energy Transition?” with Jessica Moerman, an environmental scientist, pastor and president of the Evangelical Environmental Network.
- Tuesday, March 11: “Global Energy and the Case for Climate Optimism,” with Chris Turner, author of “How To Be A Climate Optimist.”
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) shared information on what events will be occurring during Black History Month. The following events are upcoming:
- Feb. 7, depart at 4:30 p.m. – Hair Run (sponsored by Equity and Belonging)
- Feb. 12 to Feb. 15, during lunch and dinner – Valentine’s Rose Sale at Lowry Tables (sponsored by African Student Union)
- Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. – Natural Hair Fest in Williams 060 (sponsored by Black Women’s Organization)
- Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. – BSA Ball in Kittredge Dining Hall (sponsored by Black Student Association)
- Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. – Black History Month Showcase in McGaw Chapel (sponsored by Equity and Belonging, BSA and BWO)
- Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. – UNO & Spades Night Tournament in Babcock Kitchen (sponsored by Equity and Belonging)
Director of Residence Life John Reynolds shared updates to the housing selection timeline on Jan. 27. The deadlines for certain housing placements are as follows:
- Feb. 20 at 11:59 p.m.: Off campus exemptions, senior specialized housing and Living Learning Communities application due (all-gender, first generation and language suites). All housing agreements are also due for general selection (required in order to receive a housing selection timeslot).
- Feb. 25: Housing selection times provided for all students not already housed in senior specialized or Living Learning Communities housing.
- Feb. 27: Rosters due for all-gender, first generation and language suites communities by supporting faculty and staff. Senior specialized housing also happens this day.
- March 3 to 7: General housing selection takes place for single rooms, double and triple rooms and suites.
A courteous correction: The Great Decisions lecture on Feb. 6 was canceled.
