Scot Council met for their general assembly meeting in Lowry 202 on April 15 at 7 p.m. These meetings are open to the public.

The opening discussion included a headcount for Scot Council’s general election, which includes positions for rising seniors, juniors and sophomores. Voting in the general election will close on April 26 at 5 p.m.

The budget committee is currently in the process of meeting with student organizations and reviewing budgets. The conduct committee reviewed bylaws. The constitution committee approved the Biology Club’s constitution, has met with Queer Student Union and plans to meet with Echo Choom. The outreach committee is working on marketing elections. The social justice and equity committee is still working on delegating responses from Cookies For Concerns, the event that Scot Council hosted last month where they fielded concerns about departments.

The liaison committee is attempting to work with athletic staff to make gyms on campus more inclusive spaces. This discussion follows posters that were hung up around campus that included advertising for the possibility of an all-women’s hour or an all-LGBTQ hour at the gym — the forms for which have since been taken down. The liaison committee specifically discussed a low-volume gym hour, during which fewer people would be allowed in the gym at once.

The dining liaison discussed that dining is down to 100 green to-go boxes in total. As outlined in the Voice‘s article from earlier in the semester, green boxes have been going missing across campus, which is partially due to the lack of a check in and out system. Campus dining will be doing a check in and out system next academic year. Starting in the 2024-25 academic year, box disappearances could be charged to student accounts if not returned, which is a change from this year.

Scot Council is planning on integrating a religion and spirituality representative in the coming semesters. They also discussed the importance of outlining that an individual can only run for one position at a time in future elections. They are hoping to revise the application process after a replacement for Presence is announced and implemented.

The racial and ethnic diversity constituents hosted a financial wellness event and will host the event in future semesters. The gender and sexuality diversity constituents met with Scot Council’s advisor, Dean Ashley Reid, to discuss the role of the director of prevention and advocacy. The international diversity constituents discussed the Wooster World Cup’s outcome.

The accessibility constituents brought forward updates about Douglass’ current state and its upcoming renovations. An elevator will be added into the building and an ADA compliant ramp will be installed on the first floor.
