On Nov. 13, Scot Council held their last General Assembly meeting before Thanksgiving break. These meetings are held in Lowry 224, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays.
In lieu of the resignation of Cliff Bobbitt, Ashley Reid, current associate vice president for student affairs and senior associate dean of students, will fill Bobbitt’s role in an acting capacity. Bobbitt was formerly the Scot Council advisor; Reid will also assume that position.
Bobbitt’s resignation follows student protests during and after the inauguration of McCall. Scot Council Social Justice and Equity Committee is meeting with the Racial and Ethnic Diversity constituents, in part to discuss these recent events. Racial and Ethnic Diversity constituents are also in the process of developing a survey for students of color.
During the protests, students expressed frustration about the closing of Douglass Hall for renovations and the resulting lack of a Black Cultural Space. As a part of the Liaison Committee, Scot Council Gender and Sexuality Constituent Pras Subedi ’27 will be meeting with facilities managers about possible uses of Douglass once renovated.
“I’m trying to get student feedback,” Subedi said. “There is space for possibly two other lounge spaces [apart from the Black Cultural Space] in there.”
According to Subedi, there are discussions about moving the Q Space to Douglass, and the South Asian Committee has expressed interest in having a cultural space. Additionally, Scot Council is working on forming an ad hoc committee about the Douglass renovations. Once Scot Council forms the committee, applications will open for it.
The dining liaison Tyler Rak ’24 is meeting with Marjorie Shamp, Director of Campus Dining, to discuss the food options available over Thanksgiving break.
