The undefeated Fighting Scots women’s soccer team picked up their sixth win of the season against The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Saturday, Sept. 16, scoring four goals to secure a 4-1 victory. Naomi Mann ’24 earned the North Coast Athletic Conference athlete of the week by scoring back-to-back goals for the Scots. Grace Gascoigne ’24 and Julia Struck ’26 scored Wooster’s two other goals of the game. Hallie Krzys ’25 notched two notable assists with Kelsey Maley ’26 and Lindsey Moore ’24 getting one assist.
The Fighting Scots were in full control of the game with 16 shots, 12 of which were on goal. The lack of goals in the second half came as a result of Pitt-Greensburg keeper Hailey Kepner ’26 picking up eight saves. Meanwhile, Wooster goalie Kameryn Nelson ’26 picked up three saves in the competition.
When asked to comment on the game, Head Coach David “Geordie” Brown stated, “we played a very efficient game yesterday at Pitt-Greensburg. To score four goals in the first half was a great way to put ourselves in charge of the game. We created a lot of good chances and our finishing was very sharp.” These four goals dictated how the rest of the game would go and put the Scots in firm control.
When asked to comment on the season, Coach Brown shared, “the team has been working hard on and off the field to come together, our leaders are keeping everyone focused on the next challenge. Our trip to Spain in May was a great learning experience in how to play the game with more confidence, composure and patience.” Just like in any sport, the success of the Scots so far depends on the chemistry among the players, a goal that Coach Brown works hard to perfect. In a lot of ways, the season has been defined by this chemistry, a feature that was likely bolstered by the trip to Spain, which allowed the players to get to know one another better.
The Scots look to continue their streak this Saturday, Sept. 23 against John Caroll as they seek to continue their excellent run.
