On Saturday, Wooster’s track and field team competed in the first part of the men’s heptathlon, as part of the opening weekend of the NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. David Brew ’14 was the only participant for the Scots in these events.

The day began with the 60-meter dash. Brew came in 10th place with a time of 7.69 seconds. First place was awarded to Matt Hunter, a sophomore from Ohio Wesleyan University, with a time of 7.07 seconds.

In the long jump competition, Brew came in 11th place with a distance of 5.36 meters while Ohio Wesleyan claimed first with a distance of 6.32 meters from junior Andrew Diehl.

Brew recorded a distance of 9.12 meters in the shot put competition, landing him 10th place overall. Ohio Wesleyan came up first again with a distance of 12.39 meters from Aaron Port.

The final event of the day was the high jump competition. This proved challenging for Brew, as he came in last place with a height of 1.49 meters. Diehl claimed his second first-place finish, jumping at 1.89 meters.

The competition continued on Sunday with the remainder of the men’s heptathlon and the women’s pentathlon.

Brew came in 11th place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.7 seconds. He was much more successful in the pole vault, coming in fifth place with a height of 3.82 meters. First place was awarded to Tyler Jenkins, a freshman of Ohio Wesleyan, with a height of 4.06 meters.

During the final event, the 1000-meter run, Brew showed that he would not be taken down easily. He recorded a time of 2:40.75, landing him a first place position.

Representing Wooster for the women’s pentathlon were Amy French ’14, Hilary Coady ’16, and Jensen Buchanan ’14.

The Scots came out strong in their first competition, the 60 meter hurdles. French claimed 2nd place with a time of 9.65 seconds, trailing behind Ohio Wesleyan senior Emily Amburgey, who had a time of 9.58 seconds. Coady came in ninth place and Buchanan came in 13th place with times of 9.84 seconds and 10.49 seconds respectively.

The high jump was slightly more challenging for the Scots, with French coming in at sixth place with a height of 1.50 meters, Coady at seventh with 1.47 meters, and Buchanan at 10th place with 1.38 meters. First place was claimed by the ever-dominant Amburgey at a height of 1.62 meters.

Coady came in third during the shot put competition with a distance of 8.54 meters. French and Buchanan came in 13th and 14th place with distances of 7.12 meters and 6.96 meters respectively. Aedin Brennan, a freshman of Denison, threw a distance of 9.80 meters to win first place.

Coady and Buchanan claimed fourth and fifth place for the long jump competition, landing distances of 4.74 meters and 4.70 meters respectively while French came in eighth place with a distance of 4.52 meters. First place was once again claimed by Brennan with 5.16 meters.

The final event, the 800-meter run, was successful for Coady who came in 3rd place with a time of 2:30.63. Buchanan and French came in 10th and 11th place with times of 2:44.51 and 2:46.97 respectively. First place was awarded to Brennan with a time of 2:27.87.

The Championships will continue at the Scot Center starting today at 1:30 p.m. and tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
