The Fighting Scots’ track and field teams hosted Ohio Wesleyan University, Kenyon College and Allegheny College in the first quad meet held in the new Scot Center. The Wooster women’s team fell 40 points shy of Ohio Wesleyan’s team total of 221, while the men’s squad finished fourth.

The women’s races featured a number of close finishes, including Kara Johnson ’14 edging out OWU’s Holly Fouch by one hundredth of a second in the 60m. Fellow sophomore Amy French’s time of 10.12 in the 60m hurdles resulted in a second place finish to Ohio Wesleyan’s Sarah Becthel’s 10.10.

Abena Boamah-Acheampong ’13 jumped just one centimeter farther than Ellen Sandin ’15, granting Wooster first and second place in the triple jump. The field proved to be the women’s strongest events, with Boamah-Acheampong winning high jump and Sandin taking first in long jump.

On the track, the women were less successful but just as determined. Sarah Appleton ’12 finished strong in the 500m with a late push to surpass Kenyon’s Lizzie Halper for third place. In the 800m, Wooster took four of the top six positions.  The women took second in all three relays, including a tight finish in the 4×200 and a late surge by Meredith Shaul ’12 in the distance medley to close a 100m gap to barely 20m.

The men had no individual victories. Notable finishes for the men’s team included second and third in the pole vault and second in the 4x400m relay.

Micah Caunter ’12 finished fourth in a fast 800m race with a time of 2:03.36. Wooster will host the Fighting Scots Invitational next Saturday, with field events to start at noon at track events starting at 2 p.m.
