Babylonia Aivaz, a Seattle community rights activist, is going to extreme lengths in order to save an abandoned warehouse, which is being demolished to make room for luxury apartments.
Aivaz, whose goal is to turn the building into a community center, invited all of her Facebook friends to the wedding, saying “Yes, I’m in love with a 107 year old building! Yes, IT[’]S A GAY MARRIAGE! How is that possible? Well[,] there must obviously be a deeper story.”
In December, Aivaz (with 16 others) unsuccessfully held a protest in an attempt to save the warehouse. “If corporations can have the rights of people, so can buildings,” she said. The wedding is scheduled to be held on Sunday, but since Jan. 27, she has been wearing her dress and living in the building to try to save it (ABC News).
