250 Putin protestors arrested at anti-election rally

After Sunday’s parliamentary election results, thousands of protestors congregated in Moscow to object to the appointment of Vladimir Putin as Prime Minister.

While many have looked at the election results and suggested that it will “mark the beginning of the downside for Putin’s influence” due to the diminished numbers of the majority power, others rallied to oppose what they remember as a particularly authoritarian regime.  Boris Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister who is now an enemy of the Russian government, was detained and arrested during the protests as well (cnn.com).

The views are likely to resonate with those who sympathize with the “Occupy” movement, as Teddy Roosevelt was once called a socialist by his own critics during his famous presidency.

Obama has proposed increasing taxes on the rich and cutting further taxes to the middle class in an attempt to restart the economy (cnn.com).
