The golf team placed third out of seven with three players finishing in the top 10 at Denison University’s annual Ted Barclay Invitational at Granville Golf Course in Granville, Ohio on April 10-11.
Wooster held its ground at second on Saturday with all five starters shooting in the 70s on the par-71 course, for a combined score of 310.
The Scots finished on Sunday with a 311 on the day for a total of 621 over 36 holes, which was just 10 strokes off the tournament champion Allegheny College (621) and one behind second place Baldwin-Wallace College (620).
Wooster came out ahead of host Denison (622) and Muskigum University (639), Mercyhurst College (651) and Kenyon College (667).
Blake Sword ’12 led Wooster, earning fourth place out of 45 with back-to-back rounds of 76 for a total of 152 on the tournament.† Greg Benckart ’12 and Michael Peters ’12 also finished in the top 10, taking the eighth and 10th places, respectively.† Also starting for the Scots, Tim Faerber ’12 placed 17th and Tim Sullivan ’10 came in 31st.
The following weekend the Scots placed fourth of nine teams at the Wittenberg University Invitational and solidified its fourth-place standings in the North Coast Athletic Conference going into the conference tournament.
Again, Sword was the most consistent golfer, earning 13th overall with a 155 total on the tournament.† Sullivan was also a top-20 scorer, tying for 18th (157) and Benckart and Peters tied for 23rd place.
This week, the Scots will host the Nye Intercollegiate at the Wooster Country Club. Last year, the Scots tied for third place in this event, with Peters finishing third overall. The Intercollegiate was won by Baldwin-Wallace University, who placed first and second individually.
