We here at The Wooster Voice are deeply disturbed by the recent layoffs and the manner in which they occurred. We stand with all staff and faculty who have been impacted by the recent campus transition. Our staff recognizes the pain this has caused to the entire community at large as well as the very real material losses incurred by terminated staff, such as loss of employment, salary and benefits alongside the psychological damages that come with a loss of community. As journalists and community members, we value transparency and honesty, something we find lacking amongst the current campus administration and board of trustees. As students, we feel blindsided as some of our most vital community members have been taken from us. Faculty and staff deserve transparency and students deserve to be informed and included in decisions that affect our campus community. Watching staff and faculty mourn their colleagues and their trust in the institution has been demoralizing, but we have found hope in the outpour of support, resistance, protection and submissions we have seen and received here at the Voice. As Independent Minds, Working Together our strength lies in our resilience and continuous fight to be heard and seen, even when our institution tries to silence us.
