I wonder
Did the 17th century French Protestants know they were making history,
When they threw the Catholics out the window,
thinking,
will I survive this revolution?
I wonder,
did the Russian junior, now-soldiers, chest tighten,
when he heard that Franz Ferdinand had been assassinated,
thinking,
Will I finish college?
I wonder,
did the soon-to-be soldiers stomach sink,
when he heard Roosevelt over the radio,
declaring war,
thinking,
we have done this before.
I wonder,
does the 21st century American’s lungs grow tight,
thinking,
Am I thinking then?
