The College of Wooster Community Health Taskforce addressed the campus community for the first time this semester in an email sent on Sept. 19. The email detailed instructions if an individual becomes sick, including contacting the Longbrake Wellness Center. The College will continue to provide a mask-optional policy. Masks are available at Longbrake doors A and D.
The Longbrake Wellness Center will offer flu shots for students beginning Sept. 25. Information on when and where to receive this year’s flu shot are as follows:
- Sept. 25 and 26 — Longbrake Student Wellness Center Conference Room
- Oct. 16 and 23 — Lowry Center
- Oct. 17, 21, 24 and 28 — Longbrake Student Wellness Center Conference Room
Vaccines for COVID-19 will not be offered by the College, but are available at the following locations in Wooster:
- The Wayne County Health Department (by waitlist)
- Discount Drug Mart (walk-in)
- Rite Aid Pharmacy (by appointment)
- CVS Pharmacy (by appointment)
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) sent information celebrating and recognizing National Hispanic American Heritage Month — also referred to as Latine Hispanic Heritage Month — to the community on Sept. 19. CDI, in conjunction with Latinas Unidas, will be holding events throughout the remainder of September and the beginning of October to honor the community at large and offer spaces for dialogue and learning. The month of recognition spans Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
Wooster was named one of the best 390 colleges by The Princeton Review, and was listed as one of the featured schools on the list of colleges. Wooster was also listed as a best value college and best Midwest college. The College was ranked 19th in best classroom experience, 24th in best college library, seventh in best science lab facilities, 10th for most accessible professors and 15th in the top 20 best schools for internships (private schools). Wooster ranked 23rd in “college dorms not so fancy” and 18th for most liberal students.
CDI will be sending a group of students to a lecture sponsored by the Ashland Center for Non-Violence titled “In the Shadow of the Pink Triangle: Holocaust History & LGBTQ+ Rights Activism.” The lecture is on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. Sign ups will close Friday, Sept. 27 at 11:59 p.m.
Alexa Konstantinos, vice president of marketing and communications, sent an email to students offering them a chance to share feedback on life at Wooster as a part of marketing’s “strategic brand study” that was mentioned by President Anne McCall last week in her meeting with the campus community. The survey closes on Sept. 30.
