Wooster has undergone its annual changing of the guard for faculty and staff positions around campus.
In academia, four new tenure-track professors in psychology, economics, math and computational sciences and English were added to the roster. New and visiting faculty members have now filled openings in Chinese, French (2), Spanish, German, communication studies, political science, music (2), psychology (2), sociology and archeology, chemistry, earth sciences, math and computational sciences, physics and biology.
Some notable new faces on campus include Shawn Starowesky, the new director of safety and emergency management. Starowesky replaced a position held by Kevin Cooper, who returned to his assistant position in the office of security and protective services.
The marketing and communications department added three new names to the roster. Jay Boyden now serves as the Video Media Producer, Jennifer Hugon serves as the senior graphics designer and Alyssa Retza is the Senior Director of Digital Marketing.
The Longbrake Student Wellness Center hired Dawn Cory, a clinical case manager.
Eva D’Intino joined the sustainability office as their administrative coordinator.
Liam Walker ’24 joined Alumni Relations as the Assistant Director of Regional and Multicultural Engagement. Two new members joined the alumni and family engagement team: Krystal McKinney as their office administrator and Tamara Perkins as their Assistant Director of Volunteer and Family Engagement.
Andrew Foster joined the campus grounds team as a groundskeeper.
Facilities hired two new employees: Carmi Schafrath as their administrative coordinator and Andrew Green for preventative maintenance.
Three new faces have appeared in admissions: Melissa Savidge as the Coordinator of Campus Visit Experience, Amy Szylowski as Assistant Director of Enrollment and Rachel Chisnell as an executive assistant.
Morgan Lee-Barton joins academic affairs as their coordinator.
The athletics department will now report directly to the office of the President — and has acquired new coaches, both interim and full-time, for the department. Women’s golf welcomed an interim head coach for the fall semester — Kaitlin Neumann, who previously coached at Ohio Northern University. Other new coaching staff includes head coaches Lauren Voigt for field hockey, Olivia Besancon for women’s basketball and Shaun Keenan for men’s tennis.
President Anne McCall mentioned in a Aug. 23 campus-wide email that a committee had been formed to “[coordinate] events and resources to learn about the issues and election process, voter engagement, and civil discourse, as well as to support mental wellbeing and [resilience].” This committee, referred to by McCall as a “cross-campus election planning team,” includes the campus chaplain Rev. Erin Guzmán, Director of Equity and Belonging Kayla Campbell, Director of Wellbeing and Counseling Services Anne Ober, Director of Lowry Center and Student Activities Julia Zimmer, associate professor of political science Michele Lieby, Learning Engagement Librarian Elora Agsten and assistant professor of political science Meg Wrobel.
A web page has been created for the committee on the Teaching & Learning website for faculty, titled “Teaching & Learning through the 2024 Election Season & Beyond.” The new web page includes upcoming campus events, including a Sept. 17 lecture sponsored by the League of Women Voters in Gault Recital Hall at 7:00 p.m.. The event, titled “The Fight to End Gerrymandering,” will feature retired Judge Maureen O’Connor, who served as the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, associate justice of the Ohio Supreme Court and the 61st Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.
A search is underway for a Vice President of Enrollment Management, spearheaded by Alexa Konstantinos, vice president of marketing and communications. The on-campus committee assisting the search includes librarian of the College Makiba Foster, Assistant Vice President for Alumni and Parent Engagement Steve Crawford, director of athletics and physical education Lynn Holleran, Executive Director of Procurement and Contracts Tracy Holtz, Kayla Campbell and Andre Yazhbin ’25. The College has enlisted the assistance of Academic Search, a search firm that provides assistance in hiring higher education administrators.
McCall, alongside Vice President for Finance and Business David Jones, held their campus-wide review of the fiscal year’s budget and fielded questions on their findings. A detailed report will appear in next week’s edition of the Voice.
