Feb. 5 Scot Council brief

Scot Council convened for their general meeting in Lowry 202, Monday Feb. 5. The budget committee discussed reserving more funds for new Student Engagement software and for new funds requests. The conduct committee will be meeting with Dean Joe Kirk this week.

The constitution committee is continuing to work on constitution templates and is working with Google Developers. The social justice and equity committee is organizing Cookies for Concern, which is a chance for students to share their concerns on campus and receive a cookie in return.

The sustainability liaison will help organize the free fashion fair, scheduled for Monday, Feb. 12 and Tuesday, Feb. 13. Donation bins for gently used clothing will be accessible at Compton, Holden, Babcock, Armington and Bornhuetter dorms. They are planning to have a representative speak at Missions & Outcomes about sustainability.

Marjorie Shamp is working to include input on spices for the spice rack in Lowry. Gluten free pasta will now be offered at Lowry every day. The dining liaison is still working on providing better quality box lunches for athletic teams and will be contacting team captains.

The racial and ethnic diversity constituent spoke with the Black Women’s Organization (BWO) to organize programs outside of school and hopes to organize more social events and mend the disconnect between groups of students on campus. Queer Student Union (QSU) will be meeting with Julia Zimmer and hope to be recognized as an official organization by the middle of this semester.

The first generation/limited income constituents met with Dean Ashley Reid and they are working towards building the loaner laptop program.

Scot Council General Assemblies take place every Monday at 7 p.m. in Lowry 202, and any student is welcome to attend.
