Boo Bears Brew in Old Main Cafe is one of students’ favorite places to grab a handcrafted drink or a freshly made sandwich or bagel, yet it is only open Mondays through Fridays. Many students agree that it should be open during weekends for a variety of reasons. The most prominent being it would allow students more food options while connecting them with the wider Wooster community and could provide positive financial opportunities for both students and the College.

Additionally, there are very few options for food on the weekends with only Lowry and the C-store being open. By opening the cafe, students would have more choices for meals or snacks. Our students deserve to have a variety of foods no matter what day of the week it is. This is also a wonderful way for the College of Wooster community to connect with the city of Wooster. A large portion of students do not have cars or a way to get food from places outside of the College. Seeing as Boo Bears Brew is a local coffee shop located downtown, and operating out of Old Main Cafe this would give our students the chance to experience other parts of our town.

By opening Boo Bears Brew on Saturdays and Sundays, there would also be more economic opportunities for both the students and the College. Boo Bears employs many student workers and students typically have more availability during the weekends to work, so there should be no problem finding employees to work during these new hours. Many students are looking for job opportunities and this would open up more options for them to make money.

While Wooster might be concerned about losing profits by opening on the weekends, I think that this would be a fantastic way for the College to make more money. Sundays are prime studying time and students love coming to Boo Bears to grab a coffee and get some work done. Even on weekdays, the lines stretch long, and hundreds of students visit the cafe each day. This would no doubt be the same for the weekends. Instead of spending their money on Starbucks, Dunkin or Caribou Coffee, students would give their business to Boo Bears.

In conclusion, the whole college community would benefit from Boo Bears Brew in Old Main Cafe serving up their signature roast all seven days of the week. It is important that there are multiple options for students every day of the week and the potential financial advantages for both students and the College outweigh any costs.
