Last week, in a continuation of the search process for a new Vice President of Student Affairs, three open sessions were held for the College’s faculty, staff and students, respectively, of the College. The objective of the sessions was to gather feedback from the college community as the search committee begins to narrow down the applicant pool. For those who were unable to attend the open sessions, there was an online feedback form provided in the email that Chair of the department of education and associate professor Matthew Broda sent out last Monday.
The conversation at all three of the open discussions centered around three main questions that the search committee posed.
“After reading the Leadership Profile for the Vice President for Student Affairs, what characteristics should we be reading and listening for as we read through applicant portfolios, select an initial pool, and invite finalists to campus,” restated Broda.
“If we select the best candidate for the Vice President for Student Affairs, how will the campus community/student life experience be different one year from now? If we select the best candidate for the Vice President for Student Affairs, how will the campus community/student life experience be different five years from now?” he said.
Sayantan “Sunny” Mitra ’16, who attended the student open session, said, “I was very happy that we discussed about the student experience as far out as five years later, as I think a long term vision needs to be kept in mind when we are bringing a new person in this position.”
