The Wooster men’s tennis team faced two tough opponents this past weekend. Both of the games were away; the Fighting Scots competed against John Carroll Friday in Streetsboro, Ohio, and on Saturday they traveled to North Ridgeville, Ohio, to play No. 40 Oberlin College.
Although the Scots fell short six to three to the John Carroll Blue Streaks and five to four against the Oberlin Yeomen, there were positive points to pull away from the two games.
The match against the Blue Streaks was a rally back and forth. The top doubles team, Jesse Buchan ’19 and Davis Elkins ’17, fell to their opponents 9-8 while the Scots’ second doubles team, Titas Bera ’18 and Harrison Suttle ’16 took a victory. In singles, Buchan and Jesse DeWitt ’19 earned victories, but Wooster lost the remaining matches.
Regardless of the loss, the team used it as a learning experience and prepared themselves for the following day against an even tougher opponent.
In their match against the Yeomen, maintained a close game as they won their second double and three of their six singles. With this being a conference match, it was very competitive. The Scots played well but came up just short of the win.
“We can do a better job with closing the matches in the future, but overall we’ve been satisfied with our play thus far,” said Elkins.
As the Scots host Kenyon this Thursday, April 14, the men’s tennis team is hoping to take the positives from the last two games and prepare to face off against another nationally ranked team.
“Playing one of the top double teams in our region will give us great experience,” said Elkins. “It’s always good to see where we match up against the top competitors.”
