Contributing Writer The Wooster men’s tennis team defeated John Carroll University last Friday night in a dual matchup at the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina, Ohio.
The Scots began the match strong. The men took a 2-1 lead over their opponents by winning at first and third doubles.
Both Jack Buchan ’17 and Harrison Suttle ’16 overtook their rivals 8-4 in a doubles match. Meanwhile, Willy Nelson ’15 and Jacob Pine ’15 achieved a similar scoreline of 8-5 in their doubles win.
Holding on to their 2-1 lead proved tough for the Fighting Scots, as John Carroll managed to get on the board after a hard-fought 9-7 triumph over Fighting Scots pair Titas Bera ’18 and Milo Saurman ’16.
The John Carroll men went on to tie the score 2-2 after a victory in the first singles match.
However, the Scots were not deterred and went on to take the rest of the singles matches, claiming a 7-2 overall victory over John Carroll.
First, Suttle and Buchan added two wins, both with scores of 7-6, 4-6 and 6-3 in the second and third singles matches, respectively.
Meanwhile, Pine and Nelson claimed the No. 4 and No. 6 spot in single matches, with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Saurman’s tough 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 victory secured the triumph for the Scots.
The Scots, who are 3-1 on the season, will pick up their racquets again on their Spring Break trip. They are traveling to Orlando, Florida where they will compete in six dual matches with schools from around the country.
Additionally, the outlook for the Scots seems good this season as they are 3-1 from the fall and spring season. This is the second match the Scots have won against colleges in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
