Due to changes in the College’s break schedule, housing over Fall Break will be free to all students for this year only. All dorms, with the exception of Andrews and Armington Halls, will remain open for the duration of Fall Break, which will extend from the end of the day on Friday, Oct. 3 until the start of classes on the morning of Monday, Oct. 13.

In past years, Fall Break has lasted for only five days. The extension of the break from five days to a week led administrators in the Campus Life office to waive the nightly fee that typically applies to students who stay on campus. After this year, however, nightly fees will be applied again as students become accustomed to the weeklong break.

Amber Zifzal, associate director of Residence Life, explained that the fee was waived this year “… because it’s the first year and students weren’t necessarily prepared, so we wanted to be mindful of that and educate them about what would be happening in future years.”

Students who wish to stay on campus during Fall Break must apply using a form available on the College’s website. This form can be accessed by going to the “Housing” page under the Residence Life drop-down menu in the sidebar. These applications are due by Sept. 24; otherwise a $25 late fee will be incurred.

Armington and Andrews Halls will close during the break while they undergo renovations. The buildings will be completely inaccessible to students because water shutoff valves need to be repaired.

Students living in those dorms who are staying over break must stay in a different building and get permission to occupy another student’s room during that time.

Consent forms, which must be signed by the student staying over break and all roommates in the borrowed room, are also available on the College’s website and are due by Sept. 24.

Limited dining options will be available to students over Fall Break. “Kittredge, Pop’s and Old Main will be closed, but Lowry, Mom’s and MacLeod’s will have limited meal hours,” said Zifzal.

Throughout Fall Break, Mom’s will be open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. – 2 a.m. and MacLeod’s will be open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The main Lowry dining room will be open from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

“Meal plan balances will work exactly the same as they do during the school year,” said Marjorie Shamp, assistant director of Campus Dining and Conference Services.

Students staying over Winter and Spring Breaks will still be charged nightly fees of $15 per night for domestic students and $7 per night for international students.
