Among everyone who watched this year’s Super Bowl, whether for the commercials or for what was supposed to be one of the best Super Bowls in years, there seemed to be a general consensus that the game was a let down. The Seahawks simply dominated the Broncos and took home their first Super Bowl victory in a landslide of 43-8.
Across the board, the Seahawks were the better team. Defensively, the Seahawks held Knowshown Moreno and the Broncos’ running game to only 27 yards. They also forced a safety after a bad snap over Peyton Manning’s head on the first play from scrimmage and kept Denver scoreless until the third quarter.
In comparing the two stars of the game, Russell Wilson and Peyton Manning, Wilson was the victor. He threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns while Manning completed 34 of his 49 attempts for 279 yards. Manning also gave away two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
In many ways, Super Bowl XLVIII was a depressing yet remarkable game. The Seahawks’ unequivocal dominance was impressive but boring at the same time. Undoubtedly, the majority of NFL fans were left unsatisfied in a game that was hyped as one of the best matchups in recent Super Bowl history. The next Super Bowl will be held on Feb. 1, 2015 at the beautiful University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
