Last week, Jan. 15-19, Wooster’s Moot Court team travelled to Tempe, Ariz. to compete in the national tournament of the American Moot Court Association (AMCA). The three previous qualifying tournaments for nationals were held in November of the fall 2013 semester in Saginaw, Mich., Orlando, Fla., and Wooster.

Six Wooster teams qualified for nationals, a tournament lasting two days. The qualifying teams were as follows; Mae Manupipatpong ’14 and Eric Petry ’14; Rachel Meyers ’14 and Erica Ricky ’14; Luke Tonat ’15 and Tyler Hoff ’14; Andrea Patton ’14 and Alexi Ehrlich ’14; Benjamin Taylor ’16 and Janet Zahorsky ’14; and Daniel Cohen ’14 and Abby Helvering ’16.

On the first day, each team argued three times and was then either knocked out or proceeded to the second day on a point basis. The second day of competition was arranged in a tournament format. Five of Wooster’s six teams advanced to the second day of competition. Of these teams Taylor and Zahorsky made it to the final eight, and Cohen and Helvering advanced to the final four before being eliminated.
