A new improv group on campus will soon begin welcoming those that are just starting out with improvisational comedy or want to develop their comedic personalities. Group President Daniel Boyce ’16 and Vice President Adam Silverstein ’16 have created No Questions Asked, an improv group with no auditions, no performances and no experience necessary. The group will focus on teaching improv basics and playing a variety of improv games.

Boyce said, “We want to give people new to improv the opportunity to experience it without having to perform.”

The two decided to start the group after they tried out for Don’t Throw Shoes and didn’t make it. They wanted to form a  group for others that didn’t make it into the performing improv troupe. They also hoped to provide a fun learning opportunity for people who want experience with improv in general.

Boyce took an improv class for three years in high school and Silverstein was involved in playwriting. Both are excited to teach the skills they learned to others. They believe the club could also offer practice for those interested in trying out for Shoes the next year. However, Silverstein assured everyone that “while we are going to be teaching, the main goal is going to be having fun.”

Without the pressure of performances, there will be no need to limit the number of members in the group, and there will be more flexibility with meeting times and attendance. Boyce and Silverstein would like to have the group meet at least weekly. Boyce said, “Our hope is that people will be able to meet twice a week…The more you practice something like this the better you get.” Having two meetings in a week would also provide those who can’t make a meeting time one day an opportunity to attend another. Boyce made it clear that the club will be set up in such a way that anyone is able to attend any meeting, regardless of whether they have been to past meetings or even want to participate right away.

“We don’t want to make it feel like a commitment where if you miss one you’ll be behind,” Boyce said. “Even if you’re not sure that you want to do it, show up to a meeting. Watch and see what it’s like, and if you like it you can come back,” Silverstein added.

No Questions Asked will have its first informational meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m in the Compton basement lounge. If you have any other questions or can’t make the first meeting and want to participate, contact Daniel Boyce at DBoyce16@wooter.edu..
