Apple Vice President Scott Forstall announces his plan to leave company

Apple’s Vice President Scott Forstall announcement on Oct. 30 that he will be leaving caused a surprise shakeup at the top of the company. Forstall, who was in charge of Apple’s mobile operating system iOS, will act as an adviser to CEO Tim Cook until he leaves sometime next year. Forstall was the driving force behind both the iPhone and the iPad, which account for nearly 70 percent of Apple’s profits. He was once widely considered by many to be the logical choice to replace Steve Jobs as CEO following Job’s death before later pegging him as Cook’s successor. Apple’s head of retail is reportedly also leaving the company.

Syrian government accused of waging war against own people

The Prime Minister of Qatar has accused the Syrian government of waging a “war of extermination” against its own people. The comment came hours after a failed four-day ceasefire to honor the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha left 407 people dead. Sheikh citizen Hamad bin Jassem Al Thani also accused foreign powers of standing by while the civil war turned to genocide. Al Thani expressed faith in the UN Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi but noted that his country does not trust the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
