“It was a hat-tastic night!” Sam Donnorummo ’14 exclaimed, referring to last Friday and Saturday night. Over the weekend, college students showed their dedication to service while enjoying the fun side of life by volunteering in Wooster’s annual Daddy Daughter Dance at the Community Recreation Center. The dance took place Nov. 4 and 5 and was sponsored by Wooster Parks and Recreation. The event is a fun and enjoyable way for dads and daughters all across Wooster to put their worries behind them and dance the night away.

Circle K students at the college have dedicated their time to this event for many years. This year, the Scots worked together with students from Wooster High School to help keep the wagon rolling.

The dance has been known for its varying themes over the years, ranging from Hawaiian, fantasy and movie themes. This year, the dance took us back to childhood with an “Alice in Wonderland” theme. College students volunteered their time in many areas, such as running the “painting the roses red” craft stations, shooting photos, awarding prizes, playing flamingo pool and keeping the cookies and drinks stocked for the busy dancers.

Circle K members Donnorummo, Emily Butcher ’12, Shuyuan Liu ’14 and Justin Kalinay ’13 got into style for the dance’s theme by dressing up as the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, Alice and John Trovolta. Two Wooster High School students also came as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum to help get the people in the mood. Even college academics, such as chemistry professor Dr. Paul Bonvallet, attended the dance.

This year, over 15 different students volunteered at the event with around 90 to 100 dancers attending each night.  It was a great opportunity for Circle K members to give back to the community while having a little time to enjoy the evening as well.
