The men’s lacrosse team had a difficult last couple of weeks as the Scots (2-6) have lost their last four games. Last Saturday, the Scots faced off against North Coast Athletic Conference rival Denison University.
Denison (5-1) started off the match strong, scoring a goal just one minute into the game. Unfortunately for the Scots, this trend continued and the Denison Big Red scored goals consistently for the rest of the day. Overall, Denison out shot Wooster 53-23, en route to a 12-1 victory over Wooster. The only bright spot for the Scots came in the fourth quarter when Matt Ranck ’13 scored Wooster’s only goal with 35 seconds remaining in the game.
Wooster’s woes continued against Adrian College on Wednesday in a 15-3 loss. The match started off well for the Scots when Joe Suliman ’11 scored the game’s first goal. The tables quickly turned however, as the Adrian College Bulldogs (6-2) soon scored four goals before the end of the first period. The Scots managed to keep the game close as Matt Rubin ë12 and Matt Pullara ’11 both managed to score before the half.
The tables turned in the second half when the Bulldogs ran away with the game. Despite the Scots’ best efforts, the Bulldogs went on to score five more goals in the second half, eventually giving Adrian a 15-3 victory.
Wooster’s women’s lacrosse team has faired better in recent weeks with three victories in a row. Most recently, the Wooster women defeated Tiffin University in a very high scoring 19-11 match. Madison Carey ’12 and Nina Dine ’12 led the Scots with five goals each. The Scots maintained control of the game all afternoon, when Clare Nelson-Johnson ’13 scored a goal just one minute into the match. Tiffin (4-4) made a valiant effort after the half to try to catch the Scots, but 9-6 would be as close as the game would get following two Tiffin goals to start off the second half. The Wooster women dominated the field, maintaining a ground ball ratio of 22-7 and edging out the Tiffin Dragons 17-14 in draw controls.
The Wooster women started off conference play on Wednesday against Ohio Wesleyan University after press time and this weekend they will face off against archrival Wittenberg University.
The Wooster men faced Washington and Jefferson on Wednesday and will play Ohio Wesleyan this Saturday.
