On Monday, Feb. 7 in Lean Lecture Hall, faculty, students and guest lecturers had a conversation about recent uprising in the Middle East. The lecture was designed to bring clarity on the history and current state of affairs in Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan and Yemen. The lecture was put on by the political science department and was open to all interested students and faculty. Panelist included Professors Mazen Naous and Matt Krain, both of whom have spent time in the Middle East.
Student Adel-El Adawy ’11 (at left) brought the perspective of an international student whose country is in chaos. He spoke of what the chaos looks like from an insider on the outside, and how he thinks the uprising will affect his country’s government and role in the international system.
The College was also fortunate enough to have Associate Economics Professor Mehdi Ben Guirat from Laurentian University weigh in. Reporting via Skype from Cairo, Professor Mehdi shared a very insightful perspective on the ongoing conflict. His personal experience truly brought the Middle Eastern conflicts, particularly the chaos in Egypt, to The College of Wooster.
