While Homecoming weekend brought alumni and students together on Saturday, it also brought both Wooster men’s and women’s soccer teams together on Carl Dale Field to face Denison University ó with very different results.

First the women took on the Big Red (7-4-2, 1-1 NCAC), ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region, in a defensive struggle. Wooster forward Paige Piper ’13 sent a shot into the upper 90 during the 64th minute to give the Scots a 1-0 lead. The defense only allowed Denison five shots, three of which wound up in the hands of goalie Michele Ring ’13. Denison was shut down entirely, and Wooster was able to preserve Piper’s goal as the game-winner.

The men’s team was up next, but would not be so fortunate. The Scots were able to match the Big Red (7-5, 2-1 NCAC) stride-for-stride for the first third of the game, but Denison broke it open in the 37th minute, when midfielder Ish Ghodbane scored off of a corner kick.† Before the Scots could recover, they suffered an own goal in the 43rd minute to make the game 2-0 at halftime.

Denison midfielder Bob Casarona scored the insurance goal in the 57th minute, and the game ended 3-0.† Although Wooster started the season with an impressive 6-0-1 record, the Scots are off to a rocky 0-2-2 start in the NCAC.

Wooster hosts Case-Western Reserve University (8-3-1, 1-1 UAA) Oct. 20.

On Tuesday night, the women traveled to Oberlin College (4-10, 1-2 NCAC) and unleashed an offensive barrage on the Yeowomen.

The Scots were unstoppable, winning 6-0 on goals by six different players. Kelsey Peters ë12 and Erin Davison ë13 made the game 2-0 after the first† half. Piper, Liz Mott ë11, Maggie Kehm ë12 and Bri Fulmer ë12 scored in the second. Wooster is now 9-5 (3-0 NCAC). They host Ohio Wesleyan University (3-7-2, 0-2 NCAC) tomorrow.
