The women’s lacrosse team honored its seniors in the last home game this week. The four-year veterans reveled in an 18-1 thrashing of Oberlin College (3-10, 0-5 NCAC) on Tuesday.

Wooster (10-2, 5-0 NCAC) built an early formidable 10-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game to mark its ninth consecutive win and to push its record in the North Coast Athletic Conference to 5-0 at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Fittingly, the seniors led the early scoring drive to mark the Senior Day, with goals by Jess Cleveland ’10, Becca Worthington ’10 and Amy Denny ’10 in the first four minutes of the game.† The younger players followed suit and Jacqueline Wallat ’12 scored the 10th goal in the Scots’ early run.

Oberlin’s scoreless streak ended with a free-position shot from Molly Bloom, but Denny and Madison Carey ’12 added two goals for Wooster with just two seconds left in the first half to build the Scots’ lead to 12-1.

While the seniors led the early attack, the Scots’ younger players continued to shine in the second stanza.† Goalkeeper Shawna Ferris ’13 kept the Yeowomen scoreless in the second half, including stopping five free-position shots.† Wallat recorded her first career hat trick late in the game, and defender Isabel Baylor ’12 scored on an assist by Eliza Cady ’12 for the Scots’ final goal.

Wooster outshot Oberlin 41-14 and dominated the groundballs (27-12).† In goal for Oberlin, Madeline O’Meara saved 14 shots, while Ferris had eight saves and two groundballs.

In scoring, Nina Dine ’11 led the Scots with two goals and three assists, while Wallat recorded three goals and Denny had two goals and one assist.† Megan Piemonte ’13 and Cady each scored one goal in the onslaught.

Last week the women rolled all over the opposition, dominating Albion College and NCAC rival Wittenberg University (8-5, 2-3 NCAC).

The Scots stomped on the Albion Britons last Wednesday, crushing them in a 23-6 victory.† With the Scots’ fast-paced attack unit, Wooster led 8-0 just nine minutes into the game and built the lead to an overwhelming 15-1 lead when Denny, Piemonte and Worthington all scored during a 38-second span going into the half.

During the first half the Scots outshot the Britons 25-2, but the second half saw 11 attempts from each team.† Carey assisted on two goals by Dine that were scored just 13 seconds apart to close the game, marking Dine’s seventh hat trick of this season.

Pacing the Scots were Dine and Carey with seven points each (three goals, four assists). Cleveland and Denny both set new career-highs with four goals each on the day.† Worthington and Clare Nelson-Johnson ’13 each finished with a hat trick.

Wooster faced a more challenging opponent in its NCAC rival Wittenberg last Saturday, winning 11-8 after trailing early in the game.† The Scots opened strong with an unassisted goal by Carey just two minutes into the game, but the Tigers responded with a scoring run that put them up 4-1 in the first 10 minutes of the game.† Goals by Worthington and Denny brought the Scots within one (4-3), which brought on a scoring spree with a Worthington goal on an assist by Baylor and a free-position goal by Dine to tie the game at 6 going into the half.

After a score by the Tigers’ Jessica Mead to lead by one (7-6) to open the second stanza, Wooster went on a four-goal run with Dine, Worthington and Carey’s third goals of the game to give the Scots a 10-7 advantage.† Ferris bolstered the Scots defense in goal, making seven saves in the second half and allowed just one Wittenberg goal in the last 28 minutes of play.

On the day, Dine, Worthington and Carey each had three goals, and Ferris had 12 saves to give Wooster its triumph over Wittenberg.† Wooster is currently undefeated in the NCAC with five wins and will face Kenyon College (12-1, 4-1 NCAC) in the last game of regular season play at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Gambier, Ohio.
