The Wooster softball team continued a terrific start to its season this spring break. The Scots managed to win five straight games as they changed their record from 5-6 to a very impressive 10-6.
The Scots were led by Kelley Johnson í13 who was awarded as the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Johnson went 13-22 to finish off the Scotsí road trip giving her an average of .591.
In addition, Johnson connected for the first home run of her career against Polytechnic Institute of New York.
In addition to Johnsonís stellar performance, Lauren Swinehart í12 and Erica Villa í13 also contributed to Woosterís offensive play. Swinehart had three multi-hit games and went 4-for-5 in Woosterís victory over The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
Villa also managed to string together three multi-hit games during the Scotsí road trip while maintaining an impressive batting average of .455. Priscilla Staples í10 contributed six RBIís during the road trip to bring her team-leading total up to 17.
In addition to the power of Woosterís offense the Scotís pitching was also spectacular. Gina Pirolozzi í13 posted a 2-2 record and had a career best 11 strikeouts against Roger Williams University. Her strikeout total for the entire road trip was a very impressive 24 batters.
This stellar performance came on top of an impressive first week during which she as named the North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after pitching Woosterís first no-hitter since 2005.
In addition, Jenn Horton í13 had a 3-1 record striking out a total of 16 batters. She also managed to contribute to the Scotís offense by going 6-12 at the plate while driving in three runs.
The Scots faced Marietta College for a double-header on Thursday.
