The Fighting Scots women’s basketball team fought hard in a tough loss Saturday at Denison University.
Despite the loss, they outscored Denison 26-21 (11 for 27) for a .407 percentage in the second half, compared to Denison, who shot .348 (8-23), who is currently in first place in the conference.
Early in the first quarter, a Lauren Hancher ’16 jump shot gave the Scots a two-point lead.
To kick off the second quarter, Kyle Croxton ’18 found Natalie Coschigano ’17 for a score, earning the assist.
In the third quarter, Rachel Collins ’17 started a 5-0 scoring run with a score from the field. The team defense was doing its job in the second half, limiting Denison to their second-fewest points in a half all season.
During the Scot’s 6-0 run in the fourth quarter, Katie Mandych ’18 hit a jumper to solidify the scoring run.
The Scots had a strong 9-2 scoring run in the end, with five points from sophomore Hannah Kiser ’18. When asked about it, Sydney Grier ’17 said, “They were a really tough opponent, [very] physical, aggressive.”
The Fighting Scots travel to Hiram College on Wednesday, as the regular season winds down.
When asked about the game, Head Coach Lisa Panepento replied, “Just the fact that our players continued to work hard and compete. They don’t go away, I’m very proud of them for that fact.”
