An Ohio mother is suing the Cleveland Clinic for medical malpractice, claiming surgeries conducted there left her infant son severely brain damaged and led to his premature death. According to NECN, Dawn McAlpine filed a wrongful death complaint on Jan. 24 against the Clinic and two surgeons who performed surgeries in 2003 on her son, Khalil Saddler, to repair an abnormal vein in the base of his brain. McAlpine’s attorney says the surgeons used a surgical device that was specified for adult use without McAlpine’s permission. Anderson claimed the glue from the device seeped into the child’s brain causing a stroke and permanent brain damage. The child died in 2008.
